Volleyball is a sport that is played by two competing teams on a court that is divided by a net.
The object of the game is to continually send the ball back over to the opponent’s side of the net, while keeping the ball off the floor, or ground of your side of the court.
The game is started with a serve which can be over or underhand, depending on the game or tournament standard rules.
Each team is allowed to hit the ball three consecutive times in an attempt to send the ball back over to their opponent’s side of the court.
Typically, each side’s turn consists of a bump (pass), a set and a spike (hit).
Each team has 6 players.
3 players are in the front row and 3 players are in the back row.
Same player can not hit the ball twice in a row (A block doesn’t count)
Back row players can not attack the ball in the front row. If they attack, they have to perform the jump behind the attack line.
The ball is allowed to be played off the net. It is a fault if the ball contacts net outside antennas.
The ball has to travel between the antennas (or the imagined extensions of them) when flying to the other side of the net.
Referee calls the ball "in" if any part of it hits the lines.
The ball is ruled "out" if:
the ball lands outside the boundary lines (without touching the opponent)
The ball hits the antenna
any of the net or cables outside the antennas
a referee stand or poles or the ceiling
Forearm Pass (Bump)
Ready position is demonstrated with the feet shoulder width apart, belly button to target, and hands together to make a flat platform.
Contact is made with a flat platform with the arms extended and aimed to target.
Force is generated from legs instead of arm swing.
Follow through to target, most often the setter.
Attack (Spike)
Use an appropriate three or four step approach and arms swing back and up to generate force.
Make contact with the top half of the ball in front of the shoulder with a high hand.
